{"id":13586,"date":"2024-10-21T10:28:28","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T08:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marsilioarte.it\/?post_type=magazine&#038;p=13586"},"modified":"2024-10-21T10:28:28","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T08:28:28","slug":"ugo-mulas-milan-museums","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/www.marsilioarte.it\/en\/magazine\/ugo-mulas-milan-museums\/","title":{"rendered":"Ugo Mulas in citt\u00e0: the project that celebrates the bond between the photographer and Milan"},"content":{"rendered":"On 10 October 2024, Palazzo Reale inaugurated the major exhibition <em>Ugo Mulas.<\/em> <em>The process of photography<\/em>, but the celebration of the work of the unforgettable photographer goes beyond the confines of the Milanese institution and finds space in other cultural venues as part of the <em>Ugo Mulas in <\/em>citt\u00e0 initiative. Pinacoteca di Brera, Palazzo Citterio, Museo del Novecento, Palazzo Morando | Costume Moda Immagine, Museo Poldi Pezzoli and Fondazione Marconi welcome some of Mulas\u2019 works connected to their own history, thus broadening the reflection on the bond between the author and Milan.<br \/>\r\n<h2>UGO MULAS AND MILAN<\/h2><br \/>\r\nThe city was a constant presence in Mulas\u2019 work and influenced his practice: it\u2019s no coincidence that in 1963 the photographer created Joan Mir\u00f3\u2019s portrait next to the portrait of a lady by Pollaiolo, exhibited in a room of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli \u2012 \u201cthe work is not a mere snapshot, but makes the photographer\u2019s work contemporary and relevant\u201d, as the museum director Alessandra Quarto says. Mulas also portrayed artists whose works are now hosted by Museo del Novecento \u2012 \u201can acknowledgment of a great photographer through what is both a multi-venue exhibition and, at the same time, a testament and a felicitous counterpoint to the work of leading exponents of art in Milan with whom Mulas himself shared experiences: Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Fausto Melotti, the evolution of Nouveau R\u00e9alisme\u2026\u201d, states Gianfranco Maraniello, director of the City of Milan\u2019s Musei d\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea.<br \/>\r\n<h2>UGO MULAS IN CITT\u00c0<\/h2><br \/>\r\nThe human and emotional relationships that Mulas established with people and places also emerge clearly from his photos. In fact, Angelo Crespi, general director of the Pinacoteca di Brera and Palazzo Citterio, recalls that Mulas&#8217; \u201cremarkable career\u201d began \u201cnear the Brera when the Bar Jamaica was a meeting place for artists and intellectuals\u201d. The friendship that united Mulas and Giorgio Marconi is also well known: \u201cUgo Mulas used to frequent the Studio Marconi in order to record and take photos of exhibitions, artists, and artworks by Louise Nevelson, Man Ray, Valerio Adami and Enrico Baj. He was a close friend of my father, Giorgio&#8221;, recalls Gi\u00f3 Marconi, director of Fondazione Marconi.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nThe result of this intellectual itinerary is a multi-venue project that unfolds across the city, reflecting the many nuances of Mulas\u2019 gaze on Milan.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nThe entrance ticket to the <em>Ugo Mulas. The process of photography <\/em>exhibition at Palazzo Reale gives reduced-price admission to Pinacoteca di Brera, Palazzo Citterio, Museo Poldi Pezzoli, and vice versa, as well as to the <em>Miracoli a Milano. <\/em><em>Carlo Orsi fotografo <\/em>exhibition at Palazzo Morando | Costume Moda Immagine. Fondazione Marconi and Museum of Palazzo Morando offer free admission.
