The protagonist, Mahmoud Ajjour, is a child who was seriously injured while fleeing an Israeli attack in Gaza in March 2024. Young Mahmoud was the victim of an explosion that led to the amputation of one arm and the mutilation of the other. The story of this powerful image is described and commented on by the photographer herself and by Lucy Conticello \u2013 global jury chair of the competition.
