Living in Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo"},"content":{"rendered":"For me Cortina is Home. With a capital H. As has ever been the case, and rightly so, the course of a child\u2019s life is determined by the choices of his or her parents, and this is also true for the places that, for better or worse, become part of the most profound essence of our being. My parents, in different ways and with different modes of expression, loved the place deeply and they have passed that love on to me in full. That is not always how things work out, but in my case, thank heavens, \u201cmy\u201d Cortina has been and remains synonymous with wellbeing and beauty. Born at the end of September, I started to \u201cfrequent\u201d it at the age of just over two months and since then it has always stayed close to my heart. The schools, the local friendships as well as the \u201cseasonal\u201d ones, which in a few rare and precious cases have lasted to the present day. Social life and the silence of the woods, the succession of the seasons, including those of life. Getting stuck in traffic on the way there and then all of a sudden the wonder of a stroll in the semi-deserted center or the spectacle of the moon, the mountains, and the valley from somewhere a little higher up. The continual practice of sport, as a training ground of daring and then as lifestyle. The amazing energy my mother displayed in entertaining her more or less true friends,
\r\nthe breakfasts that would last all the way up to the beginning of amazing lunches, the house
\r\nalways filled with people of every kind and then wonderfully deserted for months on end.
\r\nVia Marangoi, home for me in the true sense of the word, which for fifty years has signified
\r\na refuge, the inner side of \u201cmy\u201d Cortina.
\r\nAn alternation of normality and mundanity, family intimacy, and extreme sociality at every
\r\nhour of the day. The \u201cflavor\u201d is still there, pieces of furniture and objects that one might not
\r\nhave expected, mixed up in a vision of taste in the interiors that make that fine chalet of
\r\nGigi Vietti\u2019s, another unforgettable friend, \u201cMarta\u2019s house\u201d forever. I\u2019ve met, and it seemed
\r\nquite normal, stars from every field (culture, sport, politics, business, entertainment); along
\r\nwith wackos, low lifes and scroungers of every kind who rendered the peace and quiet that
\r\nreigned off season even more precious. Marvelously imperfect: by nature I prefer it discreet
\r\nand not crowded as in the past, but I try to keep up the tradition, remaining open at least
\r\nto sparkling New Year\u2019s Eve parties and the occasional pleasant get-together with old
\r\nand new friends.
