Sonnabend Collection Mantua: Between Pop Art and Contemporary Art

Housed within the newly restored medieval Palazzo della Ragione, the Sonnabend Collection Mantua Bookshop marks the beginning of the exhibition route as a space dedicated to contemporary art, publishing, and design. The palace’s historic interiors, adorned with important 13th- and 14th-century frescoes, enter into dialogue with the works of the Sonnabend Collection, creating an atmosphere suspended between memory, research, and experimentation.
The bookshop complements this experience with a carefully curated selection of exhibition catalogues and publications devoted to the artists featured in the museum and to key figures in contemporary art. The collection ranges from Pop Art and Italian Arte Povera to Neo-Dada, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, contemporary photography, and the many experimental practices that have shaped visual culture since the second half of the twentieth century.
Alongside these publications, a dedicated section of art books and essays explores themes including art, collecting, and contemporary visual languages, while a children’s area offers illustrated books and editorial projects focused on ecology, sustainability, and art education.
The experience continues with a selection of design objects, ceramics, lighting, and home accessories inspired by the aesthetics of Pop Art and contemporary culture, together with an exclusive range of merchandise created in collaboration with Tassinari/Vetta, drawing inspiration from the visual language of the collection.
Completing the experience is a showcase dedicated to contemporary jewellery, wearable accessories, and artisanal creations from the Mantua region: unique pieces, many of them exclusive, born from the meeting of aesthetic research, craftsmanship, and social commitment.
