The Next Earth: Antikythera and MIT Architecture at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale

On the occasion of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Marsilio Arte presents “The Next Earth: Computation, Crisis, Cosmology,” an innovative exhibition project born from the collaboration between Antikythera and MIT Architecture. Starting May 9, 2025, Palazzo Diedo will host a dual installation exploring contemporary ecological challenges through the lenses of planetary computation and sustainable architecture.

A dual perspective on crisis and innovation

Spread across two floors of Palazzo Diedo, the exhibition establishes a dialogue between “The Noocene: Computation and Cosmology from Antikythera to AI” and “Climate Work: Un/Worlding the Planet” by MIT Architecture. Two complementary visions to rethink the relationship between technology, the environment, and humanity.

Antikythera and planetary computational thought

Antikythera is an international think tank exploring the role of computation as a philosophical, geopolitical, and technological force. The “Noocene” section investigates how artificial intelligence and cosmology offer new interpretative tools for understanding our time. Through an architectural-scale video monolith, short films, and historical artifacts, visitors are invited to reflect on Earth’s transformation in the Noocene era.

MIT Architecture: sustainability and the future of the built environment

“Climate Work,” curated by the MIT Department of Architecture, features 40 original projects addressing climate change through innovative design strategies. From material reuse to energy modeling, the exhibition presents concrete solutions for a more sustainable future.
A bridge between science, art, and philosophy

“The Next Earth” offers a space for reflection and action, uniting scientific research, philosophical speculation, and architectural creativity. The exhibition will be open to the public throughout the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, offering an immersive experience in the heart of Venice at Palazzo Diedo.
