What would you do if you were the only earthling to survive the planet’s destruction? What thoughts would crowd your mind, and how would you try to keep Earth’s memory alive? These questions are explored by Noah Jonah Kaplan, protagonist of The Last Book. Il diario dell’ultimo terrestre, the long-awaited sequel to The Book, the extraordinary project conceived by the Hungry Minds collective, published in Italian by Marsilio Arte in 2023, which quickly turned into a veritable publishing sensation.
If The Book was presented as the ultimate guide to rebuilding a civilization ‒ a sort of illustrated encyclopaedia containing everything that has played a key role in the history of humanity ‒, The Last Book is a diary that summarizes the fundamental chapters of human culture. It is written by Noah Jonah Kaplan himself, the survivor of the explosion of Earth who is journeying into the unknown aboard an alien spaceship. To cope with loneliness, he decides to give shape to his memories by weaving a tale inspired by what makes humanity immortal. Art, music, cinema, sports, food, philosophy, myths, spirituality, but also sunsets over the sea, sunrises in the mountains, and lightning in the sky are just a taste of what lies within the pages of The Last Book. Once again, it is illustrated by the Hungry Minds collective and populated with references ranging from our appearance on Earth to the symbols of contemporary pop culture, “hidden” in Easter eggs waiting to be discovered ‒ are you ready to find Godzilla or Albus Dumbledore? Not to mention that the cover of the book glows in the dark!
Published by Marsilio Arte, The Last Book will be released in bookshops on 11 November 2025 and will be on sale exclusively during the 2025 edition of Lucca Comics & Games, scheduled from 29 October to 2 November 2025.
