The Dutch duo DRIFT, consisting of Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, has gained international fame leading a multidisciplinary team of 64 creatives who create works capable of transforming and choreographing space. Collaboration, technological experimentation, and the blending of disciplines are key elements in DRIFT’s work. The collective works in close synergy with scientists, programmers, and engineers, as well as musicians, dancers, and other visual artists to create their pieces. Their work aims to create a dialogue between opposites: nature and technology, knowledge and intuition, science and poetry.
In the setting of Florence’s Palazzo Strozzi, DRIFT presents Shy Society, an installation that fuses sculpture and music, transforming the Renaissance courtyard into an immersive stage, suspended between nature and artifice, control and wonder. The work becomes an invitation to rethink the historical context of the palace as a new and evocative place of experience, where every visitor becomes the protagonist of a multisensory experience, allowing them to reconsider their relationship with nature and the surrounding space.
Following their projects at Burning Man in the Nevada desert, NASA, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, DRIFT transforms the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi from October 23, 2024, to January 26, 2025, into the stage for a breathtaking performance blending art and technology.
