Until 22 November 2026, the Casa dei Tre Oci on the Giudecca island hosts historic works and a new large-scale installation by Joseph Kosuth. Curators Mario Codognato and Adriana Rispoli guide us through a practice deeply rooted in language
“Joseph Kosuth focused on the essence of communication, of which art is a form, through language.” With these words, Mario Codognato, curator, together with Adriana Rispoli, of the exhibition The-exchange-value-of-language-has-fallen-to-zero at the Casa dei Tre Oci, the Venetian venue of the Berggruen Institute Europe, describes the practice of Joseph Kosuth, a pioneer of the conceptual movement. As Rispoli also emphasizes, “Kosuth always used language as a tool to reach the public, which is invited to simultaneously read and experience the work in space.”
The historic works and the new installation featured in the exhibition offer visitors a valuable insight into the philosophy of an artist capable of spanning the ages, while the catalogue published by Marsilio Arte includes an essay by the curators and a never-before published conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist.
