Since 2018, on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Homo Faber Biennial has established itself as the premier international event dedicated to contemporary high craftsmanship. Published by Marsilio Arte and promoted by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship in collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, this volume traces its eight-year history through three past editions—2024, 2022, and 2018—illustrating how, in an increasingly automated era, manual skill remains a universal language capable of speaking to all of humanity.

The book follows the project’s evolution, from the European and Japanese scope of the first two editions to the global expansion of the third, Homo Faber 2024: The Journey of Life, which featured over eight hundred objects created by more than four hundred artisans from seventy countries.

Conceived by Hanneli Rupert and structured across ten thematic sections, this edition was under the artistic direction of film director and designer Luca Guadagnino and architect Nicolò Rosmarini, who transformed the halls, cloisters, and gardens of Fondazione Cini into an immersive, theatrical journey that heightened the exceptional skill of the exhibiting artisans.

Through a rich collection of imagery and in-depth analyses of all three editions, the publication aims to convey to the reader not only the variety and richness of international craftsmanship, but above all the human and cultural value of a community that continues to bring together established masters and new talents, tradition and experimentation, craft and storytelling.
