In 2025 World Press Photo, one of the most famous photojournalistic competitions in the world, saw the triumph of some of the greatest issues of today, told by the forty-two authors awarded by an international jury and selected from among 3,778 participants. The winning shots are included in the volume dedicated to World Press Photo 2025 and published by Marsilio Arte
Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf won the title of Photo of the Year in World Press Photo 2025 with her shot Mahmoud Ajjour, Aged Nine, created for The New York Times. The protagonist, Mahmoud Ajjour, is a child who was seriously injured while fleeing an Israeli attack in Gaza in March 2024. Young Mahmoud was the victim of an explosion that led to the amputation of one arm and the mutilation of the other. The story of this powerful image is described and commented on by the photographer herself and by Lucy Conticello – global jury chair of the competition.
