Two books, one inserted in the other. The first is comprised of ten essays that investigate some peculiarities of Modernism in Italy, as well as longstanding themes and problems in 20th century Italian architecture. The second book, inserted in the first one, is a collection of twenty short texts, mainly written to be shared in discussion with friends and colleagues. “The context for my writing – says Francesco Garofalo – is my personal research as an architect. This signifies for me doing architecture through writing rather than writing about architecture. My texts can be divided into two groups that propose a comparison between discipline and circumstance. And in order for this inevitably conflicting rapport to occur, the conditions have to be continually researched and nourished.”
