The exhibition entitled Strange Rules is an unprecedented experiment that, until 22 November 2026, engages with the Venetian spaces of Palazzo Diedo, home to Berggruen Arts & Culture. Conceived by Mat Dryhurst, Holly Herndon and Hans Ulrich Obrist and curated in collaboration with Adriana Rispoli, the project is a research laboratory on Protocol Art, a practice that analyses and transforms artificial intelligence models, algorithms, computer protocols and technological infrastructures into artistic material. In short, the rules that shape the production, distribution and perception of culture in the digital age.
Here is what the creators and curators of Strange Rules told us about the exhibition that brings together works by Mat Dryhurst, Holly Herndon, Michael Levin, Joshua Citarella, New Models (Caroline Busta e Julian Wadsworth), Ken Stanley, Agnieszka Kurant, Trevor Paglen, Fabien Giraud, Ho Tzu Nyen, Simon Denny, Venkatesh Rao, Stephanie Dinkins, Avery Singer, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Philippe Parreno, Lorenzo Senni, Primavera De Filippi, Ayoung Kim, Terra0 (Paul Kolling e Paul Seidler), Lynn Hershman Leeson, He Zike, SUB.
